Romans 9 is chapter that often brings up confusion and debate. Phrases such as “God has mercy on whom he desires, and hardens whom he desires” leaves many uncomfortable and torn between believing what those verses seem to say about God and how they thought God to be. I was there.
This lead to hours pouring over the chapter and deeply studying it in the context of Romans and the Bible as a whole. I did not want to allow myself to adopt an interpretation simply because it could be right and it aligned with what made me feel comfortable. I wanted to adopt an interpretation that I was convinced, from the evidence provided in the text, was the most likely interpretation. I wanted to believe whatever the bible taught.
I encourage you to take a moment to take a look my conclusions from this study. I divided the information into 3 parts. Each part has a short video with me walking through the material in a concise, but thorough way. Additionally, on each page, I have provided some written notes and additional supportive material that I thought could be helpful and answer some questions not covered in the videos. It’s in your best interest to watch each of the videos in order so that you accurately understand the reasoning behind the interpretation I will share. Check them out and let me know your thoughts!
If this make you nervous and you’re hesitant to dive in, I understand– but don’t be afraid. I’ll give you a spoiler. God is Good.
